Sparky’s Lunchbox: Football Scrimmages and Pedroia and Kinsler Get Serious Ink
The Tribune recaps last night’s football scrimmage and Sports Illustrated and ESPN The Magazine profile a couple of former Sun Devil baseball players.
The East Valley Tribune offered a solid wrap-up of last night’s ASU football scrimmage. Standing out were freshman receiver Gerell Robinson of Chandler Hamilton High, who’s expected to push Kyle Williams and Kerry Taylor for any playing time not claimed by Mike Jones and Chris McGaha, and walk-on running back James Morrison of Phoenix St. Mary’s High.
The offensive line, cause of many a sleepless night ‘round Echo from the Buttes, also acquitted itself well even without concussed starting center Thomas Altieri. Quoth Dennis Erickson: “We’re a long ways away, don’t get me wrong. But those guys were a pleasure to watch.”
For reading worth your company’s paper and ink, our baseball insider reports ESPN The Magazine ran an excellent feature on Dustin Pedroia, appropriately headlined 170 Pounds of Mouth, and Sports Illustrated delved into the competition for playing time between Pedroia and sorta-Sun Devil Ian Kinsler at Packard Stadium six years ago.
(For those of foggy memory, Pedroia won.)
