Sparky’s Lunchbox: Is Max Hall the Next Joe Germaine? ASU Hopes Not

Will ASU transfer and former Mesa Mountain View quarterback be glaring at the Sun Devils from the other sideline in a BCS game? We sure hope not.

Please do not go all Joe Germaine on us

Say what you will about , but he could sure recruit him some quarterbacks. Last year, three Koetter recruits – , and Max Hall – started for Division I-A programs. This year, the list will be three again with Keller replaced by Wyoming’s .

The point is that Hall has become quite good, as the New York Times pointed out this weekend. Danny White’s nephew is now at BYU and is expected by many to lead the Cougars to a BCS berth this year.

If BYU is BCS bound, we hope the Sun Devils don’t run into him. We remember what happened when ASU last encountered a former Mesa Mountain View quarterback in the Rose Bowl, and it was quite disheartening.

Meanwhile, if your thirst for coverage of all things Rudy Carpenter remains unquenched, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution published a profile of ASU’s quarterback over the weekend. Nothing earth-shattering here, but it’s kind of cool that Georgia’s as excited as we are for Sept. 20.

And finally, if you could use a good laugh, the Arizona Daily Star published a timeline of Wildcat quarterbacks that dates all the way back to 1899. There’s never a dull moment when debating Tom Tunnicliffe’s legacy with a UA fan.
