ASU Fans, Sip a Corona in Honor of the Corona Kids that Can’t Yet

Old enough to vote. Old enough to wear maroon and gold while pummeling NAU. At least that’s ’s take on red shirts.

Coaches often promise recruits the chance to play as freshmen, only to pull the carpet out from under them. That’s not ’s M.O.

Erickson announced yesterday that at least eight and perhaps nine true freshmen will suit up this season rather than sitting out as redshirts. After looking at the list, all we can think is Centennial High School Football Rules!

Centennial, located in Corona in the Inland Empire east of L.A. and Orange County, provides the Devils with a speedy back and a pair of linebackers who are pressing the veterans atop the depth chart. So, here’s the list:

RB Corona, CA
S Los Angeles, CA
DE Las Vegas, NV
Josh Jordan CB Las Vegas, NV
LB Corona, CA
LB Corona, CA
WR Chandler, AZ
C Aurora, CO
OL Peoria, AZ

Rudy Carpenter had this to say about ASU’s youngsters: “Once I saw this freshman class get here and I saw them compete and play in practice (…) they can play, they compete and work hard, and they’re smart, intelligent guys.”

, Jonathan English and Kerry Taylor all contributed as true freshmen last year. Bolden was most impressive, starting the final nine games of the season at cornerback.

Of course, we were already fans of Bolden’s for pulling the old ballcap switcheroo and clowning USC on signing day. (This video from YouTube gets good about 60 seconds in.)

Who’s the Bolden in this class? Only time will tell. But we can certainly throw out reckless speculation in the comments below.

  1. “There is my neighbor Nusultan Tuliakbay, he is pain in my assholes. I get a window from a glass, he must get a window from a glass. I get a step, he must get a step. I get a clock radio…he cannot afford. Great success! ”

I wish all these freshmen great success!

By the way, Robinson is my pick. Throw it up in the corner of the end zone and let him go get it!

  2. Oh I’ll sip a Corona all right, especially while I listen to this:

    I was caught
In the middle of a railroad track (Thunder)
    I looked ’round,
And I knew there was no turning back (Thunder)
    My mind raced
And I thought what could I do? (Thunder)
    And I knew
There was no help, no help from you (Thunder)
    Sound of the drums
    Beatin’ in my heart
    The thunder of guns!
    Tore me apart
    You’ve been – thunderstruck!

    GO DEVILS!

  3. Saw Robinson play some quarterback at Desert Vista and, yeah, he ain’t no Rudy Carpenter… But the kid is huge, and I’m with you, AK, he makes for a nice target.

Play him like Hagen, baby, toss it up and let him go get it.

Maybe we add a Patriots-style WR option pass for him, let him use that arm a few more times.

  4. I’m with TobiaFunke on Robinson. But we need to maintain a hush about his arm…that’s a nasty little weapon vs Georgia or, even better, Unwashed Spoiled Children (usc).
