Sparky’s Lunchbox: A Handful of ASU Links as We Inch Toward to Kickoff
Defensive end James Brooks gets a little hometown love from Flagstaff, CBS reminds us that we’re no longer just a football school, and traffic is going to be a pain in the butt on Saturday night.

We love it when smaller papers like Flagstaff’s Arizona Daily Sun give a little profile love to a hometown Sun Devil like backup defensive end James Brooks. There’s never a bad time to get to know a player without the name appeal of, say, Rudy Carpenter.
The last time Brooks played football, he made six catches as a wide receiver for Flagstaff High. Now, the 6-foot-4 270-pounder is backing up two of the country’s best defensive ends in Dexter Davis and Luis Vasquez.
Meanwhile, we haven’t covered much Sun Devil basketball around here (other than Matt Carlino’s commitment to Indiana). Why? Because three days before kickoff we don’t sit around thinking about basketball. We leave that to the folks down South.
But that hasn’t stopped CBS Sportsline from updating the ASU basketball page on their site. Speaking of basketball, how strange will it be on Dec. 6 to not hear UA fans prop themselves up with “Just wait until basketball season”?
Well, we guess they’ll always have softball. Oh, wait …
And finally, since we know you’re just waiting for light rail to give up driving to the stadium, we’re going to try to post this last item every day until Saturday. The East Valley Tribune published this list of game day traffic restrictions around Tempe.
If you’re not in a hurry to get home, you may as well wet your whistle at one of our top five Tempe watering holes. But, please, Sun Devil fans, drink responsibly.

If our quarterback was Willie Tuaturnover, we’d be talking about basketball in August, too.
GO DEVILS!
