In the Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week, Atlanta Falcons rookie Sam Baker warned Georgia Bulldogs fans that playing at Sun Devil Stadium is no walk in the park. He would know. He was the starting left tackle on USC teams that beat ASU before extremely hostile crowds in 100-degree midday heat in 2005 and on Thanksgiving last year.

Quoth Baker: “It’s a tough place to play, because most of its fan base is students. A place like Notre Dame, it’s more of an alumni crowd, where they kind of sit back in their seats. At Arizona State, those students get very, very into the game.”

This was, of course, before Saturday. But still, cool quote.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Republic last week warned fans about Tempe’s arcane tailgating laws. No charcoal grills. No hard alcohol. No competitive drinking. Southerners be warned. You’re about to visit a state that was formed during the temperance movement, so we don’t play our in parking lots. Act accordingly.

And finally, if you insist on imbibing during your stay, may we point you to our list of Tempe’s top five bars for a fall Saturday. Do not end your visit without stopping by and Casey Moore’s. All five of our top five bars are within walking distance of Sun Devil Stadium and all offer lovely views of the Tempe scenery.

Speaking of scenery, if you need tailgating supplies you’ll want to stop by the Sexy Safeway. Please leave Uga outside though.

We look forward to you spending your money in our fair city and we hope to return the favor next fall if we’re able to score tickets. You wouldn’t happen to have any extras?
