By now, you likely know that the last time Georgia played a regular season game outside the SEC’s nine home states was a 15-14 loss to Houston in 1967. That was so long ago that the Chili’s on University and Mill was called North Bank. In fact, the first Chili’s didn’t even open until eight years later.

But we digress.

Many of our fellow Sun Devils have been so caught up in sobbing into their beer over, well, you know, that they’ve forgotten how exciting it is to receive a visit from Georgia.

The importance of the visit is not lost on the Georgia Sports Blog, which recently offered a poetic take on SEC teams heading out West only to be scalped by their Pac-10 foes.

Complicating matters for the Bulldogs is the fact that they’ll be facing a coach who in his illustrious career has thrice upset teams riding double-digit winning streaks. Dennis Erickson’s Miami Hurricanes teams broke Notre Dame’s 23-game winning streak in 1989 and Florida State’s 14- and 16-game streaks in 1990 and 1991, respectively.

And as the Atlanta Journal Constitution pointed out, Georgia just won its 10th straight last Saturday.

Quoth Georgia coach Mark Richt: “I saw where he’s been responsible as a coach for stopping three teams that had streaks of 10 or more [wins]. Now all of a sudden we have hit the magic number 10, and I’m sure they are going to bring that up to their team and they will have confidence to stop our streak right now.”

At least Chik-Fil-A will attempt to make the Dawgs feel at home. The Atlanta-based chain will be dishing out free chicken sandwiches to Georgia fans in front of Sun Devil Stadium on Saturday. Humbug!

We say eat more Ted’s Hot Dogs and less chikin after the company’s “Bring on Georgia” stunt two weeks ago.
