Herb Sendek Adds Another Big Commitment
By the time he arrives on campus, James Harden and Jeff Pendergraph will be millionaires and even Rihards Kuksiks and the rest of last year’s freshmen will have exhausted their eligibility. Still, it’s hard not to get a little pumped up for the addition of Herb Sendek’s latest big time commitment.

By the time Josiah Turner arrives on campus, James Harden and Jeff Pendergraph will be millionaires and even Rihards Kuksiks and the rest of last year’s freshmen will have exhausted their eligibility. Still, it’s hard not to get a little pumped up for the addition of Josiah Turner to the Sun Devils roster—just in time for the 2011-12 season.
(OK, that’s a bit of a white lie. But if Herb Sendek is going to work this hard to turn ASU into a real basketball school, we should at least pretend that we’re trying to be real basketball fans.)
The 6-foot 155-pound Turner from Sacramento averaged 10.5 points, 4.7 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game as a freshman and is considered one of the top point guard prospects in the Class of 2011. Quoth Scouts, Inc.: “He is clearly the No. 1 pure point guard prospect for the Class of 2011 on the West Coast.”
Turner is Sendek’s fourth commitment in the next three recruiting classes.
ASU’s 2009 class includes Bay Area point guard Jared Cunningham and Minnesota shooting guard Trent Lockett. Both are ranked in the top 20 at their positions.
Goodyear Estrella Foothills combo guard Corey Hawkins, the son of former NBA All-Star Hersey Hawkins, is the first member of the Class of 2010. (Check him out in the West Valley View.)
Yes, it’s a guard-heavy group. But remember that this year’s class includes 6-foot-8 Taylor Rohde and 6-foot-7 Johnny Coy. They’ll be seniors when Turner is a freshman.
We’re not going to lie. It feels a little strange talking about our 2011-12 basketball team in the middle of football season. This must be what it’s like to live in Tucson.

[...] The recruiting class did get a tad lighter in recent days as Top 20 point guard Jared Cunningham and ASU decided to part ways, reportedly due to academic concerns. (Check out our post on future ASU classes here.) [...]
