Eight former Sun Devils will be inducted into Arizona State’s athletic hall of fame at halftime of Saturday’s game. The class includes former football star and eternal American hero Pat Tillman, but if you’re on this Web site you already know about him.
So that you know why you’re cheering for the rest of the folks on the field at halftime this Saturday, we’ve prepared a brief introduction to the hall of fame class of 2008 beginning this morning with the minor sport athletes. Check back this afternoon for the major sport inductees.
And now without further ado, we give you the ASU athletics hall of fame class of 2008 …
Jacinta Bartholomew, Track and field, 1986-89
Bartholomew was a member of the 1988 NCAA champion 4×100-meter relay team, but she made her mark in long jump. A four-time All-American, she still holds the school record with a leap of 6.62 meters and she competed in the event in the 1984 Summer Olympics.
Brandie Burton, Golf, 1989-90
Burton was Carmelo Anthony back when Carmelo Anthony was in kindergarten. In her first and only season in Tempe, Burton won the Pac-10’s individual title and led ASU to its first ever national championship. She then took her game to the LPGA, where she’s won five tournament including two majors.
Lisa Dacquisto, Softball, 1994-97
ASU won its first Pac-10 and national softball championships in 2008. Before that things were a bit rough. A bright spot was Dasquisto, a four-time all-conference selection and two-time all-American who led ASU to the NCAA Tournament as a senior. She still holds ASU’s career records with 296 hits and 102 stolen bases.
Markus Mollica, Wrestling, 1993-96
Mollica was one of the best at one of ASU’s best sports. One of two ASU wrestlers to win multiple national championships, Mollica won at the 158-pound level as a freshman and at 167 pounds as a junior. He was the first Sun Devil ever to win four Pac-10 championships and ASU’s first four-time All-American.
