Countdown to Kickoff Links: Happy Halloween!
Fuzzy math from the Arizona Republic has led us to believe that our Sun Devils will not be dressing up as winners much this season.

It’s been hard to figure the Sun Devils’ sudden fall from grace this season, but the Arizona Republic tried to use some fancy math to explain our woes this week. As we all know, Echo from the Buttes is mathematically challenged, so we’ll just regurgitate here.
The gist of it is that in Dirk Koetter’s 2004, 2005 and 2006 recruiting classes, ASU signed 67 players. Only 14 of those players are getting significant playing time this season in what should be the primes of their college careers. Only 23 are even still in the program and a whopping 34 of the players never even contributed on special teams.
What does that all mean? We’re not sure. Except that we’ve got some time to kill until kickoff against Oregon State. If you haven’t been reading Echo from the Buttes this week, here’s what you missed:
- We found that ASU hasn’t been this consistently bad since 1929.
- We welcomed Bruce Snyder back to Sun Devil Stadium.
- A recent Sun Devil rapidly approached his NFL debut.
- We explored why Mike Stoops has an ax to grind against our new running back
- Herb Sendek and USA Todaygave us something to look forward to.
- And we asked five questions of OSU’s beat writer to preview the Beavers.
Happy Halloween everyone. Be safe out there!
