Score Predictions and 5 Questions with Washington’s Beat Writer

We asked the football beat writer for The Daily five quick questions about the Sun Devils’ next opponent. And don’t forget to add your score prediction in the comments!

Leveraging the power of our new Facebook page, we asked The Daily sports writer Christian Caple five questions to acquaint us with this week’s opponent.

Q: Give us two guys we should know about for their football prowess.
A: Wide receiver D’Andre Goodwin is the best and most experienced receiver on the roster, and has emerged this year as somewhat of a go-to-guy. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean as much as it used to, since the Huskies are winless and have been unable to sustain any kind of offensive rhythm in recent memory. Perhaps the only bright spot on Washington’s awful defense this season is defensive end Daniel Te’o Nesheim. He’s really the only guy on the defensive line that you have to pay attention to, so he’ll likely be seeing double teams all night.

Q: Give us one guy we should know about for something off the field.
A: Center Juan Garcia might be one of the best quotes in the Pac-10. Unfortunately, he hasn’t made many media appearances this year, probably for the aforementioned reason. He’s funny and sometimes he says things he probably shouldn’t.

Q: What’s the best case scenario for your squad this weekend?
A: Washington has more than two first downs before halftime and manages to crack double digits. And nobody gets hurt. The Huskies can worry about actually winning a game once they can accomplish those things.

Q: And the worst case?
A: In the final minutes of a 63-0 loss, Husky Stadium collapses and kills everyone inside. That’s really the only way this season can get any worse.

Q: OK, the Dawgs are 15-point dogs. Who you got straight up? Who you got in Vegas?
A: ASU is a 15-point favorite right now, and I would take that in a heartbeat. Hell, I’d lay 30. There’s no reason to think that the Huskies are going to be competitive, which is really pathetic considering that ASU is riding a six game losing streak. So take your house, boat, car, dog, children, spouse, whatever and bet it all on ASU and all the points.

  1. Well they already failed at leaving Corvallis with a win, but they might have a shot at leaving SEATTLE with a win… ;)

My optimistic prediction, if the same competitors from last week at OSU show up? 31-10, ASU.

My pessimistic prediction, if the same goobers who can’t seem to get out of their own way most of the season make an appearance? 17-16, Devils.

My own personal hell? UW gets off the schneid and the wheels come off the whole Dennis Erickson era and pulls the shocker, 28-17 Huskies.

  2. Strange to say this, but I feel good this week. If I were a betting man — and I am — I’d take the Devils to beat the spread. I don’t think Washington will move the ball on our D. So I’ll say 28-10.

  3. Actually, let’s make that 26-10. Four TDs in one game is a pipe dream. More like two TDs and four FGs. :)

  4. Until ASU proves it, I won’t believe it. Washington 24-20.

  5. The team is done. Lets end it tomorrow & focus on hoops. 21-15 Washington.
