Score Predictions and 5 Questions with UCLA’s Beat Writer
We asked the football beat writer for The Daily Bruin five quick questions about the Sun Devils’ next opponent. And don’t forget to add your score prediction in the comments!
Leveraging the power of our new Facebook page, we asked The Daily Bruin sports writer Jason Feder five questions to acquaint us with this week’s opponent.
Q: Give us two guys we should know about for their football prowess.
A: The two guys ASU fans should know about are defensive tackle Brian Price and cornerback Alterraun Verner. Price is a sophomore and is one of the most dominating young D-linemen in the country. Verner, a junior, is the Bruins best cover man and has discouraged quarterbacks from throwing to his man with his shutdown play over the past few weeks.
Q: Give us one guy we should know about for something off the field.
A: One guy you should know something about is true freshman free safety Rahim Moore. He was one of the top recruits in his class and will be making his 11th start tomorrow night. Moore also has an ongoing bet with his self-described “God-brother” Alterraun Verner. Whoever has more interceptions by the end of the year will be getting treated to dinner by the other. Moore leads the team with three while Verner is second with two picks.
Q: What’s the best case scenario for your squad this weekend?
A: Best case is a win for the Bruins that keeps their bowl hopes alive for one more week until they have to play ‘SC at the Rose Bowl. Though there’s no extra motivation needed to beat the Trojans, UCLA’s seniors are looking to end their career with their first trip to a bowl game under Coach Rick Neuheisel.
Q: And the worst case?
A: Worst case is a blowout loss, obviously, that demoralizes the team before their matchup against ‘SC. The offense finally found a running game two weeks ago against Washington and to lose that facet of their offense would hurt. Either way, this game against ASU means very little unless the Bruins can pull off a monster upset a la 2006 next week.
Q: OK, the Bruins are 10-point dogs. Who you got straight up? Who you got in Vegas?
A: Except for an away win against the worst team in the country (Washington), UCLA has not shown it can win on the road. I’m taking the Sun Devils straight up and in Vegas.
