Five Reasons We Sun Devils Hate the University of Arizona
The headline says it all. We Sun Devils don’t like the University of Arizona, and it’s not just because they make us drive down I-10 to beat them every other year. Let us know why you don’t like them in the comments!

5. Mike Stoops Annoys Us
Stoops called ASU a junior college and whines whenever he doesn’t get his way—which is often against the Sun Devils. He’s won just once in five tries against us and we’ve kept him from bowling the last two seasons. And seriously get off the field already!
4. Their Own Players Think They’re a Joke
In the Arizona Daily Star this week, former UA tailback David Adams said, “Tucson is a 6-5 and 7-4 town; it’s always ‘we’ll get ‘em next year. The mentality seems to be ‘we’re one step away.’ I’ve seen that for 20 years. Beat ASU and everything will be all right.” We just can’t condone that sort of contentment with losing. Maybe that’s why they’re ready to enshrine Willie Tuitama and we’re so split over Rudy Carpenter.
3. 3 of the 5 Worst Losses in ASU History
If you’re old enough to remember high gas prices, recession and unrest in the Middle East (oh wait), then you’re old enough to recall UA knocking ASU out of two Rose Bowls in 1982 and 1985 and preventing the Sun Devils from going undefeated in 1986. Combined record of those UA teams? 15-11-2. Ouch.
2. They Tried to Keep us Down
In 1958, the University of Arizona – and its cronies in the state legislature – fought feverishly against Proposition 200 which sought to transform Arizona State College in Arizona State University. Only after a mysterious batch of 40,000 anti-Prop 200 votes were thrown out was victory declared. As Stella Johnson, wife of former UA bigwig Marvin Johnson, recently told The Daily Wildcat: “They tried to take everything in the world from us. There’s still a lot of bitterness. We still don’t like ‘em.” Right back at ya, Stella.
1. This One’s Up to You, Sun Devils
Everyone has their own personal reasons for disliking UA. What’s yours? Let us know in the comments below.

My personal reasons for hating uofa have just been created recently. I hate that all the fans that call themselves uofa fans now think they are the new dynasty in the pac10 and in AZ after a great season..not sure why a .500 season is dynasty worthy. They are all excited about the future and are now saying there will be dominance over ASU for years to come, and many rose bowl wins in the near future. Again, im not sure who they jump to that conclusion with a .500 record, but they do go to school at uofa, which does explain why they do many idiotic things down there
All the U of Eh smucks say how great TuSCUM the infiltrate Sun Devil land the second the graduate!
Because they are whale shit; there’s nothing lower.
For me it’s the inferiority complex almost all UA fans I know have. It’s the constant need to try to justify why UA is better than ASU. It really seems like they almost care more about ASU doing poorly than UA doing well. It’s also hanging onto the fact that at one point UA was the superior university in the state. ASU has caught up to and passed UA in many aspects and it’s pretty funny watching UA fans struggling to come to grips with that. It’s also pretty funny that 6-6 would be a huge disappointment for us, yet 6-6 would be a moderate success for UA.
I love how each year when the stink at Football they always say “we are a basketball school anyways” what about this year? ASU is on fire and we have the best player in the pac 10! Die Harden Fan here!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My hatred was cemented during the 80s when they had that ungodly streak against us, when we were usually the better team. The 56-14 win in 96 is one of my all time best days. There is nothing about that city and that poor excuse for a junior college that I don’t despise with all of my being.
Which of course, makes it all the more ironic that I have ended up with a woman who is originally from there, and we go down every month or so to visit her parents (I’ve converted her to the good side, thankfully, and her family is, incidentally, fantastic). Don’t you kids ever try and tell me that God doesn’t have a sense of humor.
BECAUSE WE LOVE LOVE LOVE THE SUNDEVILS!!!!!
Uof A Who’s that?????
I love all the comments here!!! GOOOOO DEVILS!!! >:)
***Reason #3- 3 of the 5 Worst Losses in ASU History
just PISSES ME OFF when I think about that!
The best sign I ever saw at SDS during an ASU/U of A game was “U of A’s Rose Bowl Hopes are sponsored by 7-up. Never had it… never will.” That says it all!
One word- Tucson. There is something wrong with a city (and everything associated with it) when you can’t stay down there for more than one night without going crazy- even with some good parties thrown in.
Lute Olson isn’t even coaching any more, and our MBA program is ranked above theirs, so now there are really no redeeming qualities about the school.
Give Tucson and UofA back to Mexico (that’s a funny sign if you’ve ever seen it)- AFTER the Devils lay the smack down tomorrow!
GO DEVILS!
Because of comments like Grigsby’s earlier this season. Can I please see an ASU fan go to North Nogales with a sign that says “For being ‘no joke’, UA football sure is funny!”
That and the fact that directly behind the concrete University of Arizona sign there is a Taco Bell. I suppose it’s a good marriage since eating Taco Bell and being a UA fan are kind of the same thing. It sounds like a good idea in theory, but in the end you just really want to throw up and feel disgusted with yourself for even taking part.
[...] We don’t have a whole lot to say about tonight’s basketball game against Arizona, except that we’re looking forward to it. (If you want to get all lathered up for the rivalry, check out our previous post listing five reasons we Sun Devils hate the University of Arizona.) [...]
I go to the University of Arizona and probably hate it more than you good folks at ASU. It has a crap reputation that it’s so much better, but coming from the inside, it’s a bloody joke.
