A Christmas Worth Remembering: Stoops is Staying through 2013!

Arizona athletic director Jim Livengood has bestowed upon Arizona State fans a wonderful Christmas present this year. The Wildcats are extending the contract of football coach through 2013. Stoops is averaging five wins per season in Tucson.

Merry Christmas, Sun Devil fans.

  1. Stoops is also turning this program around. He’s beaten ASU twice; he’s recruited some very good players; and he has some momentum. Sure, the guy’s a buffoon, but he is getting things done.

  2. You know…David has a point…to a point. Stoops has done one thing in 5 years what Erickson did in 1 & Koetter did in 2 – go to a bowl.

But in five years he has a .407 record…and that’s called turning it around?

Perhaps David can see why we Sun Devils are happy that Stoops is staying. Especially since the stable is bare for the mildcats next season! Who ya got waiting in the wings there?

  3. yes, he is “turning it around”, with basically an additional win each season, meaning uofa should be competitive in 2011, ill take my chances on Erickson being such a powerhouse by then, ASU has a win streak going for at least 5 seasons with Stoops. Fact is, yes, Stoops has 2 wins against ASU, but 3 losses, and 1 of those wins should be a loss for him. Im talking about his first year, when Walter got hurt in the 4th, ASU still made a comeback with Keller but Miller dropped a pass on 4th down that would of given them a first down in the red zone. This year, ASU just had a bad team.

  4. He’s beaten ASU twice, once impressively, and lost the other three (two were closer than needed, but still.)

He beat Oregon last year, but only because Dennis Dixon couldn’t go and no one else could run that offense.

Outside of that, there hasn’t been a whole lot of good – and that includes this year’s 0-4 freefall that ended only with the ASU game. (I like to pretend there was no Las Vegas Bowl this year.)
