New Year, Ridiculous New License Plate Law Impacts the Sun Devil Nation

A word of warning to the many among us with ASU Alumni or Sun Devils license plate frames. The state government has determined that frames covering the word “Arizona” on the tops of license plates are illegal effective today.

Exhibit A

The fine for criminal covering of the state name? Up to $135.

So please do yourself a favor. During halftime of the Rose Bowl this afternoon, run out to your driveway and get in compliance.

Or, if you must wait, we’ve written this catchy jingle (sung to the tune of “give a hoot, don’t pollute”) to remind you to perform your civic duty in the coming days.

Follow the law; don’t tempt fate
Don’t cover the word “Arizona” on your license plate

See, wasn’t that helpful?

  1. Just an idea for people who do have these plate covers, cut off the part covering Arizona. Sure, it will only say Sun Devils on it then, but its still representing your team

  2. What next? Lowering the speed limits on the freeways within the city to 55? Or installing photo radar to catch speeders? Oh, wait, that has already happened. When does AZ decide that cars aren’t allowed and everyone has to go back to the horse and buggy?

I’m glad to see that AZ has solved all of its important problems (budget deficit, illegal immigration, poor education, Dbacks relief pitching) and can now turn to the smaller issues.

  3. So covering up the part that says “Arizona” with something that says “Arizona State” is illegal? In what way does that obscure the name of the state in which the license plate is registered?

    I can’t say this makes a helluvalot of sense…

  4. I just ordered an ASU alumni plate for my truck, and will have no problems with it. No stupid law like that up here in the PNW!
