Recruiting Update: Two More Future Sun Devils Commit; Is the Big Fish Nearly on the Line?

Arizona State coach hauled in a running back – and an offensive lineman to block for him – in the last couple days. But the biggest catch could be coming Tuesday morning.

Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson has reportedly hauled in a couple more big catches—with the biggest fish possibly coming Tuesday morning.

Though he’s not publicly announced his decision, San Jose running back has chosen ASU over Northwestern, Oregon and Utah—if the rumor mill is to be trusted. The 5-foot-10 210-pound back rushed for 1,900 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior.

Also, offensive tackle has publicly committed to the Sun Devils. A native of Orange County, Finkenberg is 6 feet 5 and 255 pounds and will need to develop his game after moving to the line from tight end last summer.

The biggest fish could be on the line soon. Five-star end of Phoenix Desert Vista will announce his college intentions Tuesday morning. He’s reportedly leaning away from ASU and toward California, Texas or USC. But you never know.

Meanwhile, , a five-star linebacker from the Corona Centennial pipeline that has already placed three alums at ASU, continues to consider ASU, although he’s verbally committed to USC and is considered by some an academic risk.

At least one cog in the rumor mill already has Burfict committed to the Sun Devils.

Two other names getting tossed around are linebacker and wide receiver . Still plenty of time between now and next Wednesday!

The week’s commitments pushed the number of unsigned Class of 2009 commitments to 16.

  1. Kennard is a good kid, but I just don’t think he wants to go to ASU. My gut tells me he has his heart set on leaving. Would be a massive sign, but just not realistic. Hopefully he makes me eat my words tomorrow but I won’t hold my breath.

A more likely recruiting upset by ASU would be inking Vontaze Burfict. He is committed to USC, but I’m sure playing with his former pals from Corona interests him. To me, I would rather have this beastly yet very athletic middle linebacker making plays for ASU the next four years than even Kennard, who is recovering from a blown out knee. And seriously, is there a cooler nickname than TAZE!!!! We get him and its automatically a pimped out recruiting class.

  2. i agree 100% with drexel….burfict would be sick

  3. Now that the Dbacks have finally rid themselves of the horror that is Brandon Lyon I believe that miracles can happen!

    Why not Burfict AND Kennard?!?!?!

  4. Don’t Taze Me Bro!

  5. Kennard has NOT chosen the path previously traveled by the Miller brothers from Desert Vista to ASU. According to USCFootball.com and a number of other sources, he’s going to USC. It looks like ASU wasn’t even a serious option.

From USCFootball.com: “All three schools, USC, Texas and Cal offered a great education, and education is something I take seriously. SC has a great business school and I want to get a degree that will help me provide for my family after football. I know, especially with this injury, that football can be taken away anytime.”

  6. [...] Sun Devils already added offensive lineman Evan Finkenberg and running back Cameron Marshall to the fold this week. And ASU is hosting visits from defensive lineman Justin Brown and linebacker [...]
