That ASU Pie Piece Looks Big: Handicapping the Pac-10 Race, Part I
As we approach the halfway point of the Pac-10 season, we take a look at a race that should only get more interesting as we go. The best part: the Sun Devils’ piece of the pie below is the biggest!

(Hope the numbers add up—unlike last time.)
The Basement Dwellers: Arizona, Oregon, OSU
How nice is it to see Arizona in this group? Going 2-5 to start the Pac-10 schedule won’t cut it. Just think about what this team will be like without Jordan Hill, Nic Wise and Chase Budinger. Welcome to the bottom half of the Pac-10. Hope you packed for a long stay.
We have to give kudos to Oregon State for turning things around after a woeful 23-game Pac-10 losing streak that stretched into this year. OSU is not a team to be taken lightly, particularly after sweeping Cal and Stanford on the road. Oregon, on the other hand …
Odds of winning the title: Arizona 0%, Oregon 0%, Oregon State 0%
The Middle of the Pac: Stanford, USC, WSU
Both Washington State and Stanford are 3-4 in the Pac-10, both are scrappy and both – along with Oregon State and UA – will be no pushovers in the Pac-10 tourney. But we’re talking regular season here, and we can hardly see y way in which the Cougars or Cardinal win the Pac-10. That said upset wins from these two teams could determine the conference champ.
USC has been inconsistent all season, but the Trojans have played a very tough schedule. The team is 4-3 in the Pac-10, but still very talented, and could be in the race all the way to the final weekend.
Odds of winning the title: Stanford 5%, Washington State 5%, USC 10%
