Around Campus notes for ASU Sun Devils - by Echo from the Buttes
Echo from the Buttes: A Sun Devil Sports Blog for ASU Students and Grads, Sun Devil Fans and Residents of Tempe, Phoenix, Scottsdale and Maricopa County
Even after a tough weekend of Sun Devil hoops, one can rest assured that the sun will come out tomorrow—especially in Tempe. Here are a few things we feel good about in the wake of another sweep at the hands of the Washington schools.
An L.A. television station thinks beer pong is responsible for the spread of oral herpes at ASU. Never fear, Sun Devils. Michael Crow has an ingenious plan to stop the epidemic.
As you probably know, Michael Crow has imposed mandatory unpaid furloughs for all ASU employees to help the university make budget.
The furloughs extend to the athletic department. For example, Dennis Erickson will lose $20,800 of his $450,000 annual salary and Herb Sendek will lose $13,600 of his $292,000 annual salary during 12-day furloughs.
To our knowledge, neither has made a peep publicly, choosing instead to pitch in and do their part to help see the university through this mess.
And then you’ve got UConn coach Jim Calhoun. Enjoy the video.
The Sun Devil Advocates have organized a rally to protest proposed budget cuts that threaten the stability of Arizona State University. Keep reading to view a special message from the Advocates about their cause.
We’re not just seam heads and hoops junkies at Echo from the Buttes. If our fine alma matre compiles a list of the university’s top 15 accomplishments of the year, we’re happy to share them.
A word of warning to the many among us with ASU Alumni or Sun Devils license plate frames. The state government has determined that frames covering the word “Arizona” on the tops of license plates are illegal effective today.
We understand progress. But that doesn’t make it any easier to say goodbye to Camp Tontozona. With the Payson Roundup reporting that Camp T is now officially up for sale, we remember a special Arizona State tradition.
This video is probably gratuitous; that’s why we’ve buried it after the jump. If you want to see a very cheesy clip of Tempe12 models from Arizona State and the University of Arizona getting ready for the Duel in the Desert, then keep on reading.
