Weekend Links: Heartbreak is in the Air, but in the Distance a New Love Awaits

It’s been a long week filled with Renee Zellweger, empty Kleenex boxes and mascara-stained pillow cases. We cannot block from our thoughts our first true love—the love that greets us warmly each August and carries us weekend by weekend into the cool winter months.

Sure, this was an autumn to forget. But for so long, autumn is all we’ve known. And we’re hesitant to rush headlong into a rebound with that hot new fling waiting at —not after the way it’s treated us over the last decade. What is a Sun Devil fan to do?

Hell, who are we, Carrie Bradshaw? If you haven’t been visiting Echo from the Buttes lately, here’s what you’ve missed.

Ready to get back on the rollercoaster we call love? ASU is playing IUPUI in the Desert Classic hoops doubleheader at US Airways Center. If you need tickets, you can purchase them at a 50% discount by clicking here and entering the coupon code COLLEGE.

That’s all we got. Go Devils!

Weekend Links and Audio: Vegas Baby, Vegas!

It all comes down to one game. The Duel in the Desert. Arizona State vs. Arizona. Las Vegas Bowl on the line. As our good friend Trent might say, it’s time to double down against the ‘Cats. Fortunately, when it comes to playing UofA, Rudy Carpenter is money, baby.

Echo from the Buttes recently sat down with The Greg and Mark Show to chat about the ramifications of the Duel in the Desert. The audio’s below.

If you’re more into that reading thing, we’ve had a lot of football coverage over the last couple weeks. If you haven’t been paying attention, here’s what you’ve missed.

So enjoy the game, Sun Devils. We won’t be making the trek down I-10, but while we’re in Tempe we’ll take a malt Glen Garry, and if you tell that bartender to go extra easy on the water, this 50 cent piece has your name on it.

Vegas baby, Vegas!!!

Weekend Links: Sun Devil Nation Prepares for a Weekend of Hoops

With the Sun Devil football team on bye, it’s all hoops all the time this weekend. The 18th-ranked women’s team plays No. 2 Oklahoma in the WNIT semifinals at 6 p.m. tonight. It’s not on TV, but you can watch it right here for free.

And, of course, the 15th-ranked men’s team returns to after a narrow escape against San Diego State to host Pepperdine on Sunday. Will you be in The Inferno or in the nosebleeds? (We know where The Bold Saguaro will be.)

The Greg and Mark Show is checking in with its second Echo from the Buttes guest spot below. The guys are chatting about the men’s basketball team’s first two wins and the potential ramifications of the upcoming Duel in the Desert.

The Bold Saguaro: Trading The Inferno for the Nosebleeds

Echo from the Buttes’s young alumni columnist struggles with growing up—and moving up and out of the student section. Does ’s removal from the student section mean Derrick Low is safe from his taunts?
