A new team takes the top spot in Echo From The Buttes top 25

After an impactful weekend of college football, the Echo From The Buttes poll sees a new top team. Five teams rose a week-high, up four spots, plus a team went from receiving votes to inside the top 20. 

1. Texas (2-0, last week’s rank: 5)

One of the teams up four spots is Texas after it beat Ohio State last weekend. The Longhorns received a quarter of the poll’s first-place votes. They face UTSA on Saturday.

2. Georgia (2-0, last week’s rank: 2)

Georgia also claimed a quarter of the poll’s top spot votes after dominating Western Kentucky last Saturday. The Bulldogs were a vote behind Texas in the poll. They clash with SEC foe Arkansas this weekend.

T3. Indiana (2-0, last week’s rank: 3)

Indiana received the other half of the poll’s first-place votes after shutting out FCS Howard last week. The Hoosiers trailed the Longhorns by three votes at the top. They host Western Kentucky on Saturday.

T3. Notre Dame (2-0, last week’s rank: 4)

Notre Dame received half of the poll’s second-place votes after blanking Rice last week. All the Hoosiers and Fighting Irish votes placed in the top 5. They host Michigan State this week.

5. Miami (FL) (2-0, last week’s rank: 6)

Miami is the poll's top ACC team for the second straight week after dismantling FCS Florida A&M on Thursday. The Hurricanes battle conference rival Wake Forest on Friday.

6. LSU (2-0, last week’s rank: T8)

LSU sets a small run of SEC teams. It broke out of its tie with Alabama in last week’s poll after a win against Louisiana Tech last weekend. The Tigers travel to Ole Miss in Lane Kiffin’s return to Oxford. 

T7. Alabama (2-0, last week’s rank: T8)

Alabama is three votes behind LSU after it dominated conference rival Kentucky on Saturday. This week, the Crimson Tide hosts Florida State.

T7. Texas A&M (2-0, last week’s rank: 11)

Texas A&M is the second team to rise four spots after beating Arizona State last week. Texas A&M and Alabama received the same lowest vote at No. 11, but Alabama had the higher vote of the two at No. 4.  The Aggies host Kentucky on Saturday.

9. BYU (2-0, last week’s rank: 13)

BYU is the new top-ranked Big 12 team after it beat conference rival Arizona last week. The Cougars jumped a tied-best four spots and visit Colorado State on Saturday.

T10. Texas Tech (2-0, last week’s rank: 12)

Last weekend, Texas Tech survived a close battle at Oregon State. BYU had a higher top vote, which propelled it past the Red Raiders by a pair of votes. This Friday, they host top-25 conference rival Houston.

T10. Ole Miss (2-0, last week’s rank: 14)

Ole Miss rises four spots, the fourth team to do so after it beat Charlotte. Compared to Texas Tech, the Rebels have the higher singular vote at No. 7 but have the lowest singular vote at No. 18. They host LSU in a rivalry game this Saturday in a top-ten-ranked matchup. 

12. Ohio State (1-1, last week’s rank: 1)

Ohio State only received votes from three of the voters after losing to Texas last week. The Buckeyes host Kent State this week.

13. Penn State (2-0, last week’s rank: 16)

Penn State defeated Temple last week, as it is the middle team of three consecutive Big 10 teams. The Nittany Lions face Buffalo this weekend.

14. USC (3-0, last week’s rank: 15)

USC was a vote behind Penn State after it defeated Louisiana last week. The Trojans had the lowest-ranked vote at No. 20, and Penn State had the highest-ranked vote at No. 10. On Saturday, they visit Rutgers.

15. SMU (2-0, last week’s rank: T18)

SMU is the model of consistent voting, with three-quarters of its votes coming in at No. 15 and the other quarter at No. 14. Last week, the Mustangs dominated FCS UC Davis, and this week they play Louisville in a ranked matchup.

16. Houston (2-0, last week’s rank: T18)

Houston is the opposite of SMU’s model of consistent voting, after the two were tied last week. The Cougars were placed as high as No. 9 and as low as No. 22 after they dominated FCS Southern. They travel to Texas Tech in an EFTB top-20 matchup.

17. Tennessee (2-0, last week’s rank: 21)

Tennessee is three votes behind Houston after it beat Georgia Tech last week, as it is the final team to rise four votes in the poll. The Volunteers face Kennesaw State this Saturday.

18. Missouri (2-0, last week’s rank: RV)

Missouri is the first of two teams to enter the poll after it beat Kansas in the Border War last Friday. The Tigers face Troy this week.

T19. Washington (2-0, last week’s rank: 17)

Washington is the only team to drop spots after winning last week, after it beat Washington State in the Apple Cup. The Huskies host FCS Eastern Washington this weekend.

T19. Utah (2-0, last week’s rank: 22)

Last week, Utah defeated Arkansas at home, sending it up the charts. Its old PAC-12 foe Washington had the higher vote of the two schools at No. 16. The Utes host Utah State this week.

21. Virginia (2-0, last week’s rank: 20)

Three-quarters of the voters ranked Virginia after creaming FCS Norfolk State last Friday. They battle West Virginia in Charlotte this Saturday.

22. Louisville (1-1, last week’s rank: 23)

Louisville received votes from three-quarters of the voters after dominating FCS Villanova on Friday. The Cardinals battle EFTB No. 15 SMU in a conference clash this weekend. 

T23. Iowa (2-0, last week’s rank: 24)

Three-quarters of the voters gave Iowa spots in the top 25 after it ground out a win against Iowa State last week. They host FCS Northern Iowa this week.

T23. Oregon (1-1, last week’s rank: 7)

Oregon drops a poll-high 16 spots after Oklahoma State stunned the Ducks last week. Half of the voters ranked the Ducks as they host FCS Portland State on Friday. Of the three teams tied at No. 23, Oregon had the highest single vote at No. 16.

T23. Michigan (2-0, last week’s rank: RV)

Michigan climbs into the top 25, receiving votes from half of the voters after it knocked Oklahoma out of the top 25 last week. The Wolverines host UTEP this Saturday.

Falling out of the top 25: Oklahoma (last week’s rank: 10), Illinois (last week’s rank: 23)
