Randy Bennett is nearing his first game as the head coach for his hometown Sun Devils, but he's already stacking wins on the recruiting trail. On Monday, Arizona State landed a commitment from the top in-state recruit for this upcoming cycle.

Jakyi Miles is a 4-star combo guard currently playing for Compass Prep, one of the top programs in the Nike EYBL league. Miles has been on track for the 2028 recruiting class, in which he's ranked 28th in the nation and tops in the state of Arizona, though Miles expects to reclassify into the 2027 class.

Standing at 6'4" and 175 pounds, Miles has a frame to build out at the next level, but his offensive production has already made him a highly coveted player. Playing with a shooter's mentality, Miles is definitely a score-first player with proven ability to work both as a primary ball-handler or off-ball.

Miles is still a work in progress on the defensive side of the ball, needing to refine his technique on that side, but he has the length and frame to become a high-impact defender. With the decision to come play for Bennett, he is sure to receive the kind of coaching designed to turn him into one of the game's top 3-and-D guards.

Miles chose Arizona State over a handful of other very accomplished programs, holding offers from blue bloods like Kansas in addition to powers like Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, USC, and others.

If Miles does, indeed, reclassify to the 2027 cycle, he'll join a Sun Devil class that already includes 4-star commits Howard Williams and Carson Crawford, which currently ranks 23rd in the nation.

Suffice it to say that Bennett and his coaching staff have gotten off to a very hot start, recruiting-wise, before even coaching a game for Sun Devil basketball.
