BREAKING: Cutter Boley named Arizona State starting quarterback

Arizona State football head coach Kenny Dillingham reportedly decided that junior Cutter Boley is the starting quarterback, ahead of next Saturday’s season opener against FCS Morgan State. 

Boley won the starting job over sixth-year veteran Mikey Keene, freshman Jake Fette and sophomore Cam Dyer. Boley and Keene came into fall camp as the 1A and 1B and were close in competition throughout camp.

To start off camp, it looked as though it might be Keene usurping Boley for the job as Boley struggled, as Fette and Dyer fell behind. Boley turned it around as he had a good Camp T scrimmage, and has looked good since taking the majority of the first-team reps. 

Boley transfers in from Kentucky, where he posted a 15/12 touchdown to interception ratio in 11 games played last year. In his 10 starts, he averaged just over 210 passing yards per game. 

His big-play ability separated him from the pack, highlighted in our quarterback positional breakdown. At 6’5, 220 pounds, he has a cannon arm, with a high ceiling. If that ceiling is reached, the Kentucky native could turn out similar to Bo Nix, who Dillingham coached in 2019 and 2022 as an offensive coordinator at Auburn and Oregon, respectively.

Boley has also used his legs at times throughout camp, as he burst out for a long run in the Camp T scrimmage.
