Everything the Sun Devils said after historic opening win over Morgan State

TEMPE- The Arizona State Sun Devils takes a massive win over the Morgan State Bears, 70-7, at Mountain America Stadium.

The Sun Devils' offense looked dominant throughout the game, and Cutter Boley had an impressive debut, recording 387 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Head coach Kenny Dillingham, junior quarterback Cutter Boley, sophomore running back Grayson Rigdon, junior linebacker Owen Long, and senior wide receiver Reed Harris spoke to the media in the postgame.

Kenny Dillingham

Dillingham on Boley's debut (Q- Aya Abdeen, Echo from the Buttes): "He's a worker; he loves ball. He went out there today and executed the plan, which is what I love to see as guys who don't try to do too much. ... I thought he played really well. I thought he controlled the game. He made some really nice checks there that became explosives [and] some touchdowns. I was really happy with how he played."

Dillingham on how the Sun Devils took a chance to make a first impression (Q- Luke Lendler, Sun Devil Source): "I thought they capitalized on it. If you watch us play tonight, we look like a team that practices hard. Usually, if you practice hard and you practice like it's a game. First game, you're efficient; you play as you practice. I think that they showed that they put in a lot of work this offseason, but we got an unbelievable challenge ahead of us."

Grayson Rigdon

Rigdon on Boley's work ethic (Q- Aya Abdeen, Echo from the Buttes): "He's a great leader. He takes pride in running the offense and everything like that. I'm [going to] trust and believe in him, and he's gonna put me in the right situation in Arizona."

Rigdon on Dillingham's coaching philosophy (Q- Aya Abdeen, Echo from the Buttes): "He just loves the game, and I love being around that. He's gonna push you every day, [whether it's] good or bad. And I love being around somebody who has that passion for the game [of football]."

Rigdon on his growth as a running back and Kyson Brown's leadership (Q- ?): "He's kinda like my mentor. Stack days and just follow him, he's been a great leader for me so far."

Cutter Boley

Boley on playing in front of the home crowd at Mountain America Stadium (Q- Aya Abdeen, Echo from the Buttes): "It was awesome how the fanbase showed out, and it's a lot of credit to the guys on the team for how we played tonight and how bought in they were all week to the game plan and trying to be us. I feel like we came out tonight and executed on all cylinders ... but our guys really executed, and they really bought in this week."

Boley on having 387 passing yards, most by a Sun Devil quarterback (Q- Ethan Ignatovsky, Devils Digest): "It's a blessing, but that's all credit to these guys and these skill guys we have, like running backs, receivers all over the field. Just getting these guys' hands and let them do their thing. [At the] end of the day, we're not really worried about stat lines. We're worried about wins and losses. Just getting these playmakers' hands and letting them work."

Boley on the Sun Devils' offensive linemen (Q- Emma Wakefield, Bamboo Sports): "They've really come together as a group and bought into playing as a unit [and] together. Watching their growth and how much they've gotten better has been awesome. They continue to get better, and work their butts off every single week. Those are a great group of guys, and I know they're going to go out, fight, and battle every single week."

Reed Harris

Harris on the wide receivers' blocking (Q- Jake Sloan, Sun Devil Source): "We gotta take pride in everything we do, whether it's catching the ball, running routes, or blocking. Because blocking is going to help the big plays happen. I feel like what happened tonight speaks for itself, which is making plays downfield [and] getting the running backs open. When things go together like that, that's good football."

Harris on the value and leadership of Hines Ward, WR coach and associate head coach for Arizona State (Q- Jake Sloan, Sun Devil Source): "He preaches it every day. Every day, we come in hearing the right things, and he knows what it's supposed to look like. Being able to listen to him and learn from him helps a lot, and being able to do the right things every day."

Harris on how his size helps for the Sun Devils (Q- Tyler Weiss, Cronkite Sports): "I think being my size definitely helps a lot because it makes it easier for him [Cutter Boley] to see me. But just being physical is what it all comes down to, like being able to hand fight at the line of scrimmage, throw some BDs around, lay some blocks. At the end of the day, I want to be a put-together receiver. Being able to do all the things that a professional player has to do. I'm still working on it, and hopefully it's all going to come together."

Owen Long

Long on Kenny Dillingham's coaching philosophy (Q- Aya Abdeen, Echo from the Buttes): "He's extremely passionate. One thing I'd say about coach is that like the same person everyone sees is exactly who we see too, and I know we all appreciate that."

Long on the Sun Devils' defense (Q- Jordan Hamm, Sports360AZ): "How hard we want to play. Not everything's going to go right in a football game, but the things you can't control, you know your effort. It's nice to see how hard you work to get to the football. Those are the things our defense has really built on. We were able to display it tonight and the cool part about football is we got a week to get the bad things fixed, and go back at it next week."

Long on the importance of communication on the defense (Q- Michael Carotenuto, Pitch Fork Lunch): "Obviously, that's a big part of our scheme and our style that we play, like being able to communicate with each other. Cool part is the stadium was so dang loud that, like, sometimes you can't always hear, and that's a good thing. But I mean those are the little things that we work all week in practice. We rep the communication, just the simple stuff of what we're saying to each other to know what each other's got going on. I thought tonight we were able to display that. And like I said, I mean, there's always room for improvement; we'll work to get that fixed."
