Molly Miller secures contract extension ahead of second season with Sun Devils

TEMPE- Sun Devil athletics director Graham Rossini does it again.

He agreed to a contract extension with Arizona State women's basketball head coach Molly Miller, just eight months after signing football head coach Kenny Dillingham to a five-year extension, on Thursday.

In Miller's first season as head coach for the Sun Devils, she led the team to one of their best starts in program history with an undefeated record of 15-0. More importantly, she led Arizona State to one of their impressive runs in the Big 12 Women's Tournament, a 24-11 record in the season, and their first trip to the NCAA Women's Tournament since 2019.

“Molly’s impact has been immediate, creating real momentum and putting Sun Devil Women’s Basketball in the national spotlight," Rossini said in a press release. "This extension reflects our confidence in her leadership, her vision and the elite program she is building at ASU, one capable of competing for championships. As the season begins Nov. 2, we need Sun Devil fans to pack Desert Financial Arena and support this exciting roster.”

Across NCAA Women's basketball, active legendary head coaches like Geno Auriemma and Kim Mulkey have the career-best winning percentages. Miller has the third-highest winning percentage with a 321-66 record, which is .829 percent.

This summer, Miller brought in additional talent, including three freshmen who can immediately contribute to the Sun Devils.

She shared with reporters on Wednesday that it was "one of my favorite summers that I've ever had" and expressed optimism about building on last season's success.

“My family and staff are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue building at Arizona State," Miller said. "We believe deeply in this department and most importantly the people who make this place and our program one-of-a-kind. I am thankful for the leadership and support of President Crow, Graham Rossini and our administration.

"I love this community and believe in what we are building together. We are excited about what’s ahead and to have a chance to build something special at ASU. I cannot wait to keep working alongside our players, staff and the Sun Devil family to make that vision a reality.”

Associate head coach Jason Glover is excited to help continue building a winning tradition in Tempe this season.

Last year, Sun Devils players appreciated the coaching staff’s positive impact, noting how their support enhanced the overall team experience.

"We run a very extensive offense, so it's been nice to be able to mesh these new players with the returners, and it's been a good marriage," Glover told Echo from the Buttes Wednesday. "I mean, they really get along well, and they hang out on and off the court. I think culturally, it's been a really good fit, and Coach Molly does such a great job with her recruiting and what she wants in a player. We got the full package here with what we need to have a great year."

Miller's hiring by Rossini has attracted the Sun Devils women's basketball program to set a record for total attendance with 61,695 and more season ticket holders.

The future of the program is so bright, and Miller and the company are ready to continue building on success for years to come.
