Sun Devils dot Cape League rosters to open 2026 season

The College World Series is in full swing in Omaha for the 2026 edition, but that doesn't mean that the season is over for players not on one of the eight teams to advance that far in the postseason.

Collegiate summer leagues have long been a staple for young prospects, with over 30 leagues sanctioned by the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball, and none is more prestigious than the Cape Cod Baseball League in Massachusetts.

With roots dating to as early as 1885, the Cape League was officially formed in 1923 as an opportunity for players from local colleges and prep schools as well as semi-pro players to showcase their skills. The league turned to its modern era in 1963 when it was officially sanctioned by the NCAA, no longer limited to local residents but instead recruiting players and coaches from across the country.

Arizona State baseball has a long history sending players to the Cape, with notable examples including Jason Kipnis (Cotuit Kettleers, 2008), Ike Davis (Wareham Gatemen, 2007), Ryan Kellogg (Bourne Braves, 2013-14), and the top two in single-season home runs in Sun Devil history, Landon Hairston (Orleans Firebirds, 2025) and Mitch Jones (Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, 1999).

The league opened for play of the 2026 season on June 13th with eight Sun Devils on rosters across the ten teams leaguewide.

Over 1,600 Cape League alumni have gone on to appear in at least one Major League Baseball game, while the 2025 MLB Draft saw over 150 alumni selected, including 17 in the first round alone. Whether a player is on Cape for a week, a month, or the full season, his time in the league is an invaluable leg up in development for the next level.

The regular season is set to end on August 2nd, with eight teams participating in the playoffs ending on August 12th, weather depending. You can watch games from all 10 teams on Cape League TV, or listen to radio broadcasts on each team's YouTube channel.
