Volitility defines week four Echo From The Buttes Top 25


The calendar flipped to fall last Tuesday, and with the new season, the Echo From The Buttes top 25 poll saw eight new teams jump into the Top 25. There is also a new No. 1, and a team rose 13 positions.
1. Georgia (4-0, last week’s rank: 2)
Georgia was on the voters' minds as it received a third of the No. 1 votes this week. The Bulldogs beat the once-ranked Oklahoma and host Vanderbilt this week.
2. Texas (4-0, last week’s rank: 1)
Texas lost a spot and was one vote behind Georgia, holding a third of the top-ranked votes. The Longhorns defeated Tennessee on the road last week and are idle this week.
3. Indiana (4-0, last week’s rank: 3)
Indiana received the final third of the top spot votes after a win against Northwestern. The Hoosiers visit Rutgers this weekend.
4. Notre Dame (4-0, last week’s rank: 4)
Notre Dame was two votes behind Indiana after it steamrolled Purdue last week. Indiana’s higher top end kept it ahead of Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish face North Carolina this week.
5. Miami (4-0, last week’s rank: 5)
Miami was a single vote behind Notre Dame after defeating Central Michigan last week. The Hurricanes visit Clemson this week.
6. Alabama (4-0, last week’s rank: 6)
Alabama stays at six after beating South Carolina on Saturday. The Crimson Tide visit Mississippi State this week.
7. BYU (3-0, last week’s rank: 8)
BYU moves up a spot, getting all top-eight votes after going on a bye last week. The Cougars travel to TCU this Saturday.
8. Florida (4-0, last week’s rank: 21)
Florida vaults into the top 10 after beating Ole Miss. The 13 spots it gained were the most by any team this season. The Gators visit Missouri this week.
9. Texas Tech (4-0, last week’s rank: 9)
Texas Tech continues as the second Big 12 team in the polls after its win against Sam Houston. The Red Raiders visit Colorado this week.
T10. Iowa (4-0, last week’s rank: 18)
For the first time all year, Iowa received votes from all of the pollsters after it visited and defeated Michigan. The Hawkeyes host Ohio State in a ranked matchup this week.
T10. Ohio State (3-1, last week’s rank: T10)
For the second week in a row, Ohio State is tied tenth with a Big Ten team after a win against Illinois. The Buckeyes had a higher vote than Iowa in the poll but they also had a lower vote as they face Iowa this week.
12. Utah (4-0, last week’s rank: 15)
Utah had all its votes in the top 15 after it beat Iowa State last week. The Utes have a bye week this week.
13. Mississippi State (4-0, last week’s rank: RV)
Mississippi State jumps into the top 25 after beating the once-ranked Missouri. The Bulldogs had all of their votes in two positions next to each other. They host Alabama this week.
14. LSU (3-1, last week’s rank: 14)
LSU is the lowest-ranked team in the poll that stays in the same spot after defeating Texas A&M. The Tigers host FCS McNeese this week.
15. UCLA (4-0, last week’s rank: RV)
UCLA is 4-0 in the Bob Chesney era after a victory at Maryland. The Bruins are off on a bye this week. All of their votes came in the top 20.
T16. Tennessee (3-1, last week’s rank: 13)
Tennessee drops a few spots after it lost to Texas. The Volunteers were two votes behind UCLA, and they host Auburn this week.
T16. Duke (4-0, last week’s rank: RV)
Duke received votes from only two-thirds of the voters this week after it beat FCS William & Mary. The Blue Devils are on an off week this week.
18. Ole Miss (3-1, last week’s rank: 7)
Ole Miss dropped 11 spots after losing at Florida. The Rebels did not receive votes from a third of the voters, and received a top-ten vote. They are on a bye week this week.
19. Pitt (4-0, last week’s rank: RV)
Pitt was a vote behind Ole Miss and three behind the pair at T16 as it was the final team to receive votes from all of the voters. The Panthers beat FCS Bucknell last week and face Virginia Tech this week.
20. Virginia Tech (4-0, last week’s rank: T23)
Virginia Tech was three votes behind Pitt, whom they host this week in an EFTB Top 20 ranked matchup, as it should be a ranked-on-ranked battle, but the AP poll felt otherwise. The Hokies received votes from two-thirds of the voters after beating Boston College.
21. Oregon (3-1, last week’s rank: 22)
Oregon received votes from two-thirds of the voters after it won at USC. The Ducks have a bye week this week.
T22. Oklahoma State (3-1, last week’s rank: NR)
Oklahoma State is three votes behind Virginia Tech and two behind Oregon, as two-thirds of the panel had OSU in their top 25. The Cowboys defeated West Virginia last week and have the week off this week.
T22. Houston (3-1, last week’s rank: T23)
Like the Cowboys, Houston received votes from two-thirds of the panel, with one vote as high as No. 13. The Cougars beat Georgia Southern last week and face UCF on Saturday.
24. James Madison (4-0, last week’s rank: RV)
James Madison moves into the top 25 after receiving votes in the poll all season. The Dukes beat Old Dominion and face Marshall this week.
T25. Kentucky (3-1, last week’s rank: RV)
Kentucky did not have a vote higher than 23 after a win over South Alabama. The Wildcats visit South Carolina this week.
T25. Nebraska (4-0, last week’s rank: RV)
Nebraska and Kentucky placed one vote behind JMU. Like JMU, the Cornhuskers received votes from a third of the voters after they beat Michigan State last week. They face Maryland on Saturday.

Others receiving votes: Cincinnati, USC, Boise State, UMass, Wisconsin, and Wake Forest.
